When a proposition is so amazing, and so alarming in its implications about the very things which threaten people the most, they refuse to take it seriously. Refuse to accept something as fact just because an authority figure, whether a professor, the Vatican, or politician told them to believe it, and you will automatically be ridiculed.
Instead, people will automatically dismiss it as "nonsense" or "conspiracy theory," despite existence of facts which support the proposition more strongly than the more widely accepted view. Facts are not nonsense, except for those who prefer to deny them.
Not everything is conspiracy, but much does appear to conspire to achieve an agenda. Achievement of an agenda requires patience and denial of its true objectives. Deceptive repetitious propaganda accomplishes that. It's called brainwashing.
Brainwashed, unthinking people react vehemently when you question something which they have been programmed to believe. It is easier for them to believe, obey, and not think, than it is to think - they do not know how to think, and do not choose to learn how to think. It is much simpler for these people to accept and believe something as a fact because it is stated by a figure deemed an "authority."
It is impossible to have an intelligent discussion with the unthinking brainwashed. They have been deliberately dumbed down to the status of "sheeple."

The 372-page volume recommended carrying out an international, socialist agenda for the United States. This report, following on the heels of the 1955 White House Conference on Education’s use of the Delphi technique(4), served to carve in stone the use of dialectic methods in public policy making through the use of results-based “planning” by consensus, not consent. This also may have marked the beginning of restructuring America from a constitutional republic to a socialist democracy. "
